Guitar Project by Rob Hawkins

Electronics

For this I will have the help of my Uncle who is going to teach me how to solder the electrics. I will also have to learn about circuits and such like to understand what is going on and, how and why it all works together. Straight out of the kit the electrics were clip together but this is way to easy and also soldiering offers a better connection through the electrics.

Connection

To connect the electrics, I out the ridge in first, but soon realised that I could not fit the earth wire in through the whole as the bolt stopped the wire from reaching the earth, but the bolt was hit in so hard that it would not just pop back up if this did not come out then the whole project would be messed up. so the use of a crowbar was needed to eject the bolt.

The soldiering itself I did not in-fact do at my uncles but did it with my dad. To do this I un-clipped the clips from the end of the wire and placed some solder with the soldering iron on the copper end of the wire and the soldered the two ends of the wire together, before this I put a rubber tube over the wire as a protector, as a precaution a placed a bit of wood on the back of the guitar just to protect the wood from any hot solder that escaped and hit the body causing a serious mark on the wood. After they had been soldered i heated the rubber tube with a hot air gun to seal the connection and keep it safe.

The Pick-up

There are many different types of pick-ups that deliver a cleaner sound than others or a more rocky sound, there are some that have the purpose of blocking the 'hum' from the guitar these are called 'Humbuckers', these are the most widely used and there are even two different types of these (covered and un-covered). If you so wish you can get a 'pick-up' that gives you a acoustic sound but on an electrics guitar.
